Scanned pages need OCR before text editing

A scanned PDF may contain only page images. Adding new text on top is still possible, but modifying the words inside the scan requires OCR and a tool capable of reconstructing editable content.

Overlay editing is useful when the original page should stay intact

Adding a label, logo, date or short note as an overlay can be preferable when the existing page content should remain unchanged. This is common for document references, approval marks, status labels and recurring headers or footers.

Overlay tools are not a substitute for redaction

Placing a box, image or new text over sensitive information should not be assumed to remove the underlying PDF content. Proper redaction requires a tool designed to remove or sanitize the original information rather than simply covering it visually.

Visible signatures and digital signatures are different
